New to the San Diego community, Mendocino Farms is quickly becoming a local favorite! Occupying the old space vacated by Carnitas Snack Shack at the Del Mar Highlands, Mendocino Farms offers a fresh and flavorful menu using local ingredients.
They are known for their sandwiches, though they also serve salads and even vegan options! Everything on the menu is filling and bursting with flavor, but we particularly enjoyed the Save Drake’s Farm Salad and the Steak BLT. They also offer weekly specials, so if you become a regular at Mendocino Farms, you’ll never get bored of the menu!
If you try to go to Mendocino Farms during lunchtime, be prepared to wait as this restaurant, like almost every eatery at the Highlands, gets quite busy during lunch. Luckily it’s located near the new parking garage so finding a spot is usually not difficult!
Mendocino Farms also has another location in La Jolla.

One of the hottest new restaurants in San Diego is Trust, an urban rustic restaurant in the Hillcrest neighborhood! Using locally sourced ingredients to put a spin on your favorite dishes and drinks, it’s no wonder Trust has become one of the most talked-about dining concepts in the city.
Trust serves dinner daily, but it’s their weekend brunch that’s really a crowd-pleaser. Some of our favorite items that we tasted on the brunch menu include the Lemon Meringue French Toast and the Pancakes With Fried Chicken. The French Toast was decadent and delightfully lemony. The pancakes were the perfect savory accompaniment to the juicy yet crispy fried chicken. And of course, how can you have brunch without a round of mimosas? Try the Trust Mimosa made with aperol or one of their fruity flavors like blood orange!
The restaurant itself is beautiful and trendy – the interior is decidedly industrial chic. Yet it still feels welcoming! Trust is the perfect place to enjoy a lazy Sunday brunch with friends or savor a romantic dinner with a loved one.

If you’re in the mood for the best BBQ in San Diego and you’re looking for some place that isn’t Phil’s, Oink and Moo is well worth the drive up to Fallbrook. Just make sure you make a reservation as seating is limited!
Oink and Moo primarily serves burgers, BBQ, and stuffed pork chops. If you’re looking for BBQ, get either the pulled pork sandwich or one of the platters. We recommend the rib sampler platter which comes with a little bit of everything: Baby Back Ribs, Pork Spare Ribs, and Bronto Beef Ribs. On the burger side of the things, you can’t go wrong with the Oink a’Doodle Moo, which is a burger topped with a fried egg, bacon, and your choice of cheese. You can also BYOB (Build Your Own Burger). The OINK brand on the burger buns is a nice touch! They also have specials including rare meats like alligator! For sides, we recommend loading up on the mac n’cheese, waffle fries, onion rings, tater tots, and biscuits. The sides are almost as delicious as the main course!
Oink and Moo is open Wednesday through Sunday for dinner – come hungry and bring the whole family!

Ocean Beach has always been a fantastic place to hangout especially when you have a craving to grab one of the world’s greatest burgers at Hodad’s! The food is so satisfying, even celebrity chef, Guy Fieri stopped by to host the show, “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” at Hodad’s. According to the the website, a “hodad” is a nonsurfer who spends time at beaches masquerading as a surfer. Which explains why their one-of-a-kind burgers are served in a vibrant beach atmosphere!
If you decide to try Hodad’s come hungry, but be prepared to wait especially if it’s a weekend! Hodad’s usually has a line out the door. Their menu is simple, but perfected: burgers, fries, onion rings, and shakes. Choose the size of your burger, choose your toppings, choose your side, and choose something to wash it all down with!
You’ll never choose another burger joint once you’ve had a taste of the famous Hodad’s!
It’s finally pizza night, but you’re feeling too lazy to drive all the way to your local spot for pick up and you don’t want to pay extra for delivery. What’s a pizza-lovin’ San Diegan to do? See where Red Oven Pizza’s food truck is at, of course!
Inspired by Napoletana and Alsatian pizzas originating from Italy, Red Oven Pizza uses only fresh ingredients, hand-crafted dough, and their own special Italian wood-fired oven. You can choose from their Napoletana menu options or opt for the classics: cheese, pepperoni, or meat lovers. They also have a small variety of sides such as salads or garlic breads.
Here’s a primer on Napoletana-style pizzas: the process starts with the ingredients, importing all the top shelf cheeses, prosciutto, flour, and oils from Naples so you can enjoy an authentic pizza as if you ordered it from a Napoli pizzeria! The end result is simply delicious, with the right combination of warm, melted cheese, soft baked crust, high quality vegetables and your choice of either homemade Marinara, Margherita, or Margherita Extra sauce.
So next pizza night, keep your eyes peeled for the Red Oven food truck!
